The Holy Bible is the most controversial, most loved and most hated book ever
printed. Untold numbers of people have died because of this book yet it has given
eternal life to millions of believers.
Today, Satan is using very clever means of keeping Christians from reading it.
His attacks come from movies, television, radio, sports, video games, the internet
and many other leisure activities.
In some countries, people are put in prison because they were caught reading
the Holy Book or even owning one! Yet in our country, the Bible sits on the book
shelf gathering dust!
The problem is that our greatest companions in the home are probably Satan's
greatest weapons, with two of the biggest culprits being the TV and the PC. What
we
propose you do is drop one of those hours of watching the Junk Box or surfing the web for
things you shouldn't be searching for in the first place and pick up your Bible and get
into the Word of God!
Remember to always pray before reading God's Word. Ask for the Holy
Spirit to guide and teach you in your search for truth as you read from His Word.
Ask Him to keep you from getting tired or sleepy. Ask Him to keep your mind focused
on His Word and not to let your mind drift.
TIPS:
It's good to have and use a Bible Reading Plan, however, it'll do you little
justice to just race
through the plans to finish your reading! If you're not getting any food from your
reading, then you're probably reading too fast or not concentrating enough.
You may want to get yourself a small notebook and some colored pencils or
highlighters to help you in your Bible reading. (Highlighters have a tendency to
mark through the page onto the other side unless you're careful.) As you read
through the Bible, underline verses you like with a colored pencil. If it is a verse
that really touches you, underline it and make a mark in the margin next to it. In
your notebook, mark down any verses you wish to go back to and study more. Also mark
down verses where you would like to add some thoughts to it - a type of Bible diary.
We at
Lighthouse Baptist Church hope that this One Year Bible
Reading Plan will come to good use for you. We pray that you make it your goal to
read the Bible through as often as you can and that it helps you learn to be and grow into
the kind of Christian God wants you to be. |
